PE & Sports Premium

SPORTS PREMIUM
What is the Sports Premium grant?

The Government has provided additional funding for primary schools since 2013 in order to improve the provision of physical education and sport. This funding comes from the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport.

The funding can only be spent on provision for PE and sport in schools. We are held accountable for how we have used the additional funding to support pupil progress and participation in PE and school sport. We are required to publish information about how we have used the additional funding, including details about our sports provision alongside curriculum details.

How much money do we receive?

All schools with 17 or more primary-aged pupils receive a lump sum of £8000 plus a premium of £5 per pupil.

How do we decide what to spend it on?

Our rationale for the use of Sports Premium funding, which has been agreed by the Governors, is that we must use it so that:

  • all children should benefit regardless of their sporting ability
  • staff have access to training opportunities and continued professional development
  • children have opportunities to compete in tournaments and events with other schools
  • we build up a partnership with other schools and clubs
  • some activities and clubs may be subsidised so that all pupils have opportunities, eg. extra-curricular clubs, swimming lessons

How do we evaluate our spending?

Over the course of the academic year we will evaluate the impact of the funding as part of our regular school evaluations and through pupil voice. We will look at how well we use the Sports Premium to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sporting provision, including increasing participation at all levels so that pupils develop healthy lifestyles and reach the performance levels they are capable of. We aim to increase the activity of all children in school, in particular reluctant children. We have already seen an increase in the numbers of pupils entering events and joining clubs.
